About Dr Alex Smith

Australian born Alex Smith with Faith his wife from USA, spent 20 years in OMF’s pioneer church planting and multiplication in central Thailand. Alex developed a Lay Pastor training school for unpaid rural Thai leaders. In 1971, he initiated the Thailand Church Growth Committee, which continues today. He was Northwest Director for OMF (USA) for 18 years (1984-2002). During those same years, Dr. Smith was also missions Adjunct Faculty at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. He taught numerous Mission Perspectives courses for the US Center for World Mission. He was second Northwest Vice President of the Evangelical Missiological Society. Alex is co-founder of SEANET, a global Buddhist network and serves on its Executive Committee (1999- present). He travels widely, training and speaking across the globe. Alex is author of several books and many articles or chapters on mission to Buddhists, including all 16 volumes of SEANET Series. He is Adjunct Visiting Professor at some Asian seminaries. Alex Smith is convinced that majority Buddhist Asia is the greatest challenge facing the church in the 21st century.
